Martin Petrov - Oh How We Missed Out

330petrovgeovanni_479229.jpg
Yes its early to judge, but we’re Spurs fans, this is what we do.

Martin Petrov looked like the real deal against West Ham. His performance and playstyle was an absolute checklist of what we were missing against Sunderland:

- Strong, fast.

- Direct, attacking with both the ball at his feet and with pass-and-move.

- Quality and creative delivery into the boss. He drove in some balls, flicked and chipped depending on what the situation called for. Watching Malbranque continually cut onto his right foot and then float some too-deep ball to the far post over and over was quite a contrast.

- Left sided, but also switched flanks or drove play through the center. Versatile.

- Generally looked the mutts’.

Lee, Lennon and Berbatov Are Tottenham’s Most Important

players_104720.jpgWhile great teams like AC Milan and, sadly, Arsenal have had great success recently without the use of true wingers. You can't simply say "Well then surely it can work at Spurs!". Arsenal and Milan were supremely well coached into their narrow, short passing game, and had some outstandingly talented players to make it tick. Kaka, Pirlo, Henry, Pires, Bergkamp and even Vieira and Seedorf are all fantastic football brains and passers of the ball. This is what you need if you are going to play narrow and deliberate, because you will be unlocking teams with the right pass rather than trying to run past them. More limited teams can succeed with wingplay, because you don't need to be a good footballer to run as fast as you can down the wing and then cross. You also do not need to be as well trained, or as good in your movement because again - you're basically passing and then running your arse off. It's simple and its easy and its why most teams in England play that way.

Jermaine Jenas: The One Spurs Fans Love To Hate

I'm not the biggest fan of Jermaine Jenas, I think he perfectly captures what Tottenham are about. Talented but supremely inconsistent and frustrating, but doing just enough to string your hopes along that one day it will all come together. But ...
